Volunteer guide. How the ICE List submission pipeline works, and what your role does. Everything volunteers do stays in a private queue - nothing you submit is public until an administrator publishes it.

The three phases

Phase 1
Submit

Links about ICE are dropped into a private inbox.

Phase 2
Sort

The facts are pulled out of each link - agents, vehicles, incidents - with screenshots.

Phase 3
Confirm

Each record is checked for accuracy before it reaches the admins to publish.

Your role

Submitter

Spot posts, articles, or videos about ICE on social media and drop the links into your inbox - use the paste box on your profile page. Paste one or many, hit add, done. Someone else takes it from there. That is your whole job.

Sorter

Open a submitted link and pull out the facts. On the link's page you will see:

  • + Agent - name, agency, role, state, and a screenshot grabbed from the footage.
  • + Vehicle - plate, make/model, agency, state, and a screenshot.
  • + Incident - date, location, and what happened.
  • + Note - any extra context.

Each record you add goes to Confirm for review. When you have finished a link, hit Mark sorted and it drops off your list. Use Sort the next link on your profile to jump to the next one.

Confirm

Check that each sorted record is complete and correct - the details, the sources, the screenshots. When it is right, hit Confirm and it reaches the admins for final publishing.

Safety and rules

  • Nothing is public until an admin publishes it. You are working in a private review queue.
  • Document official conduct - never target private people. We document the on-duty conduct of public officials and agencies. Do not post home addresses, family details, or private personal information, and never use the site to threaten or incite violence.
  • Source what you can. Add the original link and any evidence.
  • Your identity is not published by the project.

Getting started

Go to your profile page - your desk shows your role, your queue counts, and a button to begin. New submitters: paste a link and hit add. Sorters and confirmers: hit the button to open the next item.
