Staying safe & private

Documenting immigration enforcement can carry risk. None of this is required, but the more of it you do, the safer you are. Take what fits your situation.

Before you open the site

Use a private / incognito window so your visit isn't saved in your browser history.
Consider a VPN, or the Tor Browser for the strongest anonymity. Both hide which site you're visiting from your internet provider.
On a shared or work device, be extra careful — log out fully when done.

Your identity

Use an alias, never your real name, and not a handle you use elsewhere that could be traced back to you.
If you add an email, create a new privacy-focused address first (for example a free Proton Mail account). Don't use your everyday email.
Never post details about yourself — where you live, work, or your real name — anywhere on the wiki.

Photos and files

Strip metadata before uploading. Photos and videos often carry hidden GPS location and device data (EXIF). Remove it — most phones can, or use a metadata-cleaning app — so an upload can't reveal where you were.
Don't upload anything that identifies you (your reflection, your car, your street).

Filming on the ground

Your safety comes first. No piece of information is worth your wellbeing. If a situation feels dangerous, leave.
In the U.S. you generally have the right to record police and federal agents in public. Keep a safe distance; don't interfere.
Back up footage off your device quickly (cloud, or hand it to a trusted contact) in case your phone is taken.
Film landscape, keep it steady, capture faces, vehicles, plates, and any badge numbers or names.

Your account

Use a strong, unique password you don't use anywhere else.
Turn on two-factor authentication if you can.
