    Hassane Barry, an asylum seeker from the Republic of Guinea in West Africa, driving home from appointment to get 1 month-old baby appointment. ICE agents smashed driver-side window and took Hassane off, leaving mother and baby in car. Mother can't drive.

    Scrutiny and context

    No official account has been offered, so there is not yet an "official story" to weigh against the evidence. What follows is the documented pattern into which this killing falls.

    • A recurring pattern. This is at least the 11th fatal shooting involving ICE or Border Patrol agents since the start of the second Trump administration. In several 2025–2026 cases, ICE's initial "self-defense" or "the driver tried to ram us" framing was later contradicted by video, witnesses, or the agents' own records (for example, Houston, Minneapolis, and Chicago).
    • No transparency by default. As in other recent cases, the agent has not been named, no footage has been released, and the operation's basis has not been explained. The initial public account came from a state lawmaker relaying secondhand details, not from the federal agencies involved.
