Summary: On the night of 2 May 2026, masked ICE agents arrested Chidozie Wilson Okeke, a Nigerian national, in his car in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Bystander video appears to show an agent firing a taser at Okeke repeatedly as he screamed for help and asked for a lawyer. Agents then took Okeke to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for treatment, where roughly 200 community members assembled in protest. The hours-long standoff ended with eight to nine protesters arrested. The incident triggered a city-wide dispute over whether the NYPD violated New York City's sanctuary laws, with elected officials demanding accountability.

    Full Description

ICE agents detained Okeke in his vehicle in Bushwick on the night of 2 May 2026. According to DHS, Okeke had entered the United States on a tourist visa in 2023, overstayed, and had prior arrests for assault and criminal drug possession. DHS stated that Okeke refused commands to exit his vehicle, attempted to strike officers with the car, and became physically combative, and that agents used "the minimum amount of force necessary" to make the arrest.

This account is directly contradicted by video evidence. Footage obtained by THE CITY and shared by the New York Immigration Coalition appears to show a masked agent firing a taser several times at Okeke while he is seated in the driver's seat, with another agent attempting to drag him from the car and cutting his seatbelt with a knife. In the video, Okeke screams "Somebody help me" and "They are killing me," and repeatedly asks to speak to a lawyer. A subsequent video shows him on the ground, still screaming, as agents handcuff him. DHS denies that Okeke was tased.

Injured during the arrest, Okeke was taken to the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center emergency room. Hospital patients reported being alarmed to see armed, masked agents inside the hospital. Community members who spotted the agents contacted an affiliated activist group that tracks ICE activity, and a crowd of around 200 people assembled outside. Eyewitnesses told THE CITY that agents pepper-sprayed several protesters. As agents moved Okeke — described by one account as "semi-conscious" — from the ER to a waiting ICE vehicle, clashes broke out between protesters and NYPD officers, reportedly causing injuries on both sides. Eight to nine protesters were arrested and charged.

State Senator Julia Salazar stated that agents "assaulted, tased and kidnapped" Okeke as he requested a lawyer. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Congressmember Nydia Velázquez, and Council Members Jennifer Gutiérrez and Sandy Nurse joined a rally outside the hospital calling for accountability, framing the events as NYPD cooperation with ICE in violation of sanctuary law. Mayor Zohran Mamdani countered that NYPD officers "were not dispatched to the hospital to participate or facilitate an ICE operation" but were responding to 911 calls about the protest, and called ICE raids "cruel and inhumane."

    Force / Conduct Reported

    • Taser deployed multiple times (per video evidence; denied by DHS)
    • Agent reported cutting seatbelt with a knife to extract detainee
    • Detainee dragged from vehicle; later described as "semi-conscious" when moved from ER
    • Pepper spray deployed against protesters (per eyewitnesses)
    • NYPD use of force against protesters during dispersal (video of an officer throwing a protester to the ground described by the Mayor as "disturbing")

    Incident Details (as reported)

    • Date: 2 May 2026 (into early hours of 3 May)
    • Location: Bushwick, Brooklyn — arrest near Stanhope St & Wyckoff Ave; standoff at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center
    • Detained: Chidozie Wilson Okeke (Nigerian national, per DHS)
    • Protesters arrested: 8–9, charged by NYPD
    • Agencies named: ICE / DHS; NYPD (role disputed)
    • Disputed facts: Whether Okeke was tased (video vs DHS denial); whether NYPD facilitated the ICE operation in breach of sanctuary law

    Agents

No agents individually identified in public reporting. Agents were masked. To be completed by the Agent Team — video evidence may support identification.

    • Strong sourcing already exists (THE CITY, ABC7, Newsweek, Gothamist, Brooklyn Eagle, Bushwick Daily) — likely promotable to verified after review.
    • Central factual dispute to resolve: DHS's "minimum force / not tased" claim versus video evidence. Preserve both; do not flatten.

⚠ Verification status: NOT RESEARCHED — overview compiled from press reporting, not yet verified by ICE List. This is a tracking/index page; individual incidents require their own verified pages.

Summary: Through 2026, community organizers and elected officials have reported a sustained increase in ICE activity across Brooklyn, concentrated in immigrant neighborhoods including Bensonhurst, Bushwick, and Sunset Park. Activity has included early-morning stakeouts at apartment buildings and subway stations, vehicle stops, and arrests that have repeatedly drawn community mobilization and protest. This page serves as an index to specific documented incidents and to the broader pattern.

    Full Description

Advocacy group Hands Off NYC documented at least 10 ICE sightings across New York City in April 2026 alone and reported that activity was "picking back up." Agents have been spotted with greater frequency in immigrant neighborhoods including Sunset Park in Brooklyn, alongside Corona (Queens) and Washington Heights (Manhattan). In response, activists have organized community alert systems — including neighborhood hotlines and the distribution of whistles to be sounded when agents are seen.

In Bensonhurst, community leaders reported near-daily ICE presence in January 2026, with agents conducting early-morning stakeouts near the New Utrecht Avenue and 18th Avenue subway stations and outside apartment buildings, reportedly detaining blue-collar workers as they left for work. Council Member Susan Zhuang stated her office was receiving daily calls from multiple communities, "not only in the Spanish-speaking community."

Brooklyn has also been the site of high-profile confrontations between agents and residents, in which communities mobilized rapidly to obstruct or document operations. These events have intensified a city-wide dispute over New York City's sanctuary laws and the extent to which local police may lawfully be present at or near federal immigration operations.

    Reported patterns

    • Morning stakeouts near New Utrecht Ave & 18th Ave subway stations (Bensonhurst)
    • Apartment-building sweeps — agents waiting outside to detain residents as they leave
    • Vehicle stops escalating to use of force (see Wyckoff/Okeke)
    • Community response — rapid mobilization, whistle networks, the Hands Off NYC hotline
    • Neighborhoods — Bensonhurst, Bushwick, Sunset Park most frequently cited

Summary: Federal immigration agents conducted an early-morning enforcement operation at a residential apartment building on Ogden Avenue in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, New York City. One individual was taken into custody from a first-floor apartment. The operation involved multiple federal agencies and occurred with the presence of the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security. Local police assisted in relation to alleged criminal activity.

    Background

Highbridge is a residential neighborhood in the western Bronx, located near Yankee Stadium. The incident occurred amid heightened political and media attention around immigration enforcement operations in New York City. City officials have publicly stated that while New York will comply with federal law, local law enforcement is not to participate in civil immigration enforcement absent criminal activity.

    Incident details

According to broadcast footage and on-scene reporting, federal agents arrived at a residential apartment building on Ogden Avenue during the early morning hours. Agents escorted an individual in handcuffs from a first-floor apartment and placed them into a waiting vehicle.

The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security was present during the operation and later issued public statements indicating the individual was wanted in connection with alleged kidnapping, assault, and burglary charges. The arrest was framed by federal officials as part of the initiation of broader ICE operations within New York City.

Residents of the building told reporters that the apartment had been occupied by multiple individuals who were allegedly squatting in the unit. These claims were not independently verified in the broadcast footage.

Summary: On November 20, 2025, federal immigration agents entered a private residence in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York, during an early-morning enforcement action. Video obtained by community advocates shows armed agents inside the home while a mother pleaded for her children’s safety. The operation targeted an individual who, according to advocates, did not reside at the address. The incident sparked allegations of an unlawful home entry and excessive use of force, which were later disputed by the Department of Homeland Security.

    Background

East Elmhurst is a residential neighborhood in Queens, New York City. Community organizations in the area have previously raised concerns about federal immigration enforcement actions conducted in residential settings, particularly where families and children are present.

The New York Immigration Coalition obtained and released video footage of this incident, prompting public scrutiny and media coverage.

    Incident details

According to broadcast footage and witness statements, armed federal agents entered the family’s home and pointed firearms at a mother while her young children were present. Audio in the video captures the mother repeatedly stating that she was holding her two-year-old child while pleading with the agents. The video clip is approximately 18 seconds long before cutting off.

At the time of the incident, the home was occupied by the mother, her two-year-old child, and a twelve-year-old child. Advocates stated that the agents were searching for a person who did not live at the residence. After the entry, agents questioned the woman and later acknowledged she was not the individual they were seeking, though advocates allege agents threatened to return.

Neighbors, believing a robbery was in progress, contacted local police. NYPD officers arrived on scene but were waved away by federal agents and did not intervene. The family reported that the agents did not present a warrant during the encounter.

Incident:2025-10-22 New York NY Canal Street Vendor Raids

Summary: On October 22 2025, at least six federal-style agents participated in a large enforcement raid targeting street vendors along Canal Street between Church Street and Lafayette Street. Witnesses and the Tribeca Trib reported a major coordinated action involving dozens of officers, multiple federal agencies, and several arrests of vendors selling bags, electronics, and other goods.

    Full description

The operation unfolded quickly along a stretch of Canal Street known for dense vendor activity. According to on-scene reporting, agents moved in groups, approaching vendors positioned under scaffolding and storefront overhangs. At least six agents in tactical gear and jackets marked for federal enforcement were visible in photographs and video, though the total number of officials involved was much higher.

Federal officers seized merchandise tables, detained vendors, and loaded confiscated goods into unmarked vans. Witnesses described the scene as “flooded” with federal personnel, with a mix of ICE, HSI, and FPS agents visible. NYPD officers appeared to provide traffic and crowd control but were not leading the operation.

At least thirteen street vendors were arrested. It remains unclear whether all of them were transferred into immigration custody or processed locally.

Summary: On September 25, 2025, at the federal immigration court located at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan, asylum-seeker Monica Moreta-Galarza and her young children confronted ICE agents as her husband was being detained. Footage shows the woman pleading with an officer, who subsequently shoved her against a wall and to the floor. The officer was later relieved of his duties during an investigation.

    Full description

The incident occurred when Moreta-Galarza’s husband was being taken into custody by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of a hearing in the immigration court. Video shows the woman, accompanied by her children, pleading with the officer not to separate the family. The officer, later identified in reported sources as Victor Mojica, responded “Adios” and pushed her across a hallway, into a wall, and then onto the floor, where she struck her head. According to reports the incident was recorded by multiple bystanders and quickly circulated online.

Moreta-Galarza was transported to hospital for evaluation of head trauma. The husband’s detention status remains unclear in public reporting; no public deportation report has emerged. In the aftermath the DHS described the officer’s conduct as “unacceptable” and “beneath the men and women of ICE” and placed him on administrative status pending investigation.

Summary: On September 18, 2025, eleven New York City and New York State elected officials were arrested inside the federal office building at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan during a protest related to immigration enforcement and detention conditions. The officials were participating in a sit-in after being denied access to areas of the building used by ICE for holding individuals following immigration court proceedings.

    Full description

The incident occurred during a coordinated protest by elected officials, advocates, and community members seeking oversight of detention conditions inside 26 Federal Plaza, a federal building that houses immigration courts and offices used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The officials stated they were attempting to inspect compliance with recent court orders and long-standing concerns regarding overcrowding and treatment of migrants held inside the facility.

After being denied access to restricted areas of the building, the elected officials remained seated in a hallway inside the federal building. Federal authorities subsequently detained and arrested eleven officials for allegedly obstructing the normal use of the facility. Video and eyewitness accounts show officials being escorted to upper floors of the building for processing.

Those arrested were issued federal summonses and released the same day. No injuries were reported, and no criminal charges beyond federal violations related to building access were publicly announced at the time.

The Department of Homeland Security later confirmed the arrests, stating that the individuals had refused lawful orders to disperse. Protesters and the arrested officials characterized the action as peaceful civil disobedience conducted in the course of their duties as elected representatives.

Summary: On September 18, 2025, multiple protests took place both inside and outside 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan, addressing alleged mistreatment of detainees by ICE and obstruction of oversight. According to reports, protestors—including elected officials—attempted to enter an ICE intake facility on the 10th floor and obstructed the agency’s access ramp for its garage. Federal and city law-enforcement responded and arrested at least 71 individuals in total.

    Full description

Campaigners and lawmakers aligned in calling for the abolition of ICE amid its increased enforcement activities. On the day, the elected officials attempted to inspect ICE’s holding space on the 10th floor of the building, where detainees were alleged to be held in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. They were denied entry; protest ensued and culminated in zip-tie handcuffs and arrests. Incident:2025-06-07 New York NY Protest Arrests at 26 Federal Plaza

Summary: On June 7 2025, a protest outside 26 Federal Plaza resulted in 22 arrests after demonstrators attempted to block federal vehicles believed to be transporting detained immigrants. At least ten federal-style agents were present, working alongside NYPD and Federal Protective Service officers to disperse the crowd and enforce access to the building’s vehicle ramps.

    Full description

The protest occurred at the federal complex at 26 Federal Plaza, where demonstrators gathered to stop vans and transport vehicles suspected of carrying individuals detained inside the building. Witnesses reported a rapid deployment of federal agents and NYPD officers after protesters formed a human blockade along the access route normally used for detainee movement.

Agents then moved through the crowd and began making arrests. A total of 22 protesters were taken into custody. The event formed part of a series of escalating confrontations around the facility during mid-2025, driven by increased public concern over the conditions inside the federal detention and intake areas of the building.

The footage and descriptions suggest at least ten agents participated directly in crowd movement and arrests, with more likely present in reserve positions out of view.

Summary: On 2025-12-15 in Vestal/Broome County, New York, a submission was received reporting: Ice van parked in-front of house.

    Full Description

Suspicious red van parked outside of home at 6:15 in the morning this is a residential street where everyone and every car is known so it was immediately out of place. Went to investigate further and noticed that all the windows were blacked out and unable to see in. Parked behind van and took picture of the license plate. Went up to the drivers side window and they rolled the window down. Asked who they were and what they were doing infront of the house. They stated they were the Department of Homeland Security and were conducting and investigation. Asked who they were investigating and they stated they could not tell me. Asked for their name and badge numbers and they stated they would not tell me and then proceeded to ask for my name and ID. Stated I would not give them that and stated if they refused to give me their information then I would take a picture for evidence. Went to take a picture and the agents immediately covered their faces with their hands. Stated that they needed to move away from the front of my house as I do not give them permission to be there. Walked back to my car which was parked behind them and sat until they drove off. Immediately called Vestal Police Department to investigate if this was legitimate police business. Spoke to Sergeant Mullins who stated he was unaware of ICE or Homeland Security being in town but to send over the license plate so he could look it up. Emailed him the plate and he called back stating the plate did not come back to any vehicle registered. Stated that he had just received a second call from a resident stating they exact same van was parked infront of their house. He stated that Vestal Police had no notice of ICE or Homeland Security being in the area and it was odd as they are required by US law to inform them of any investigations being conducted in their jurisdiction. Later in the day a post was made in the towns FB page stating that ICE was in the area and attached a picture of their van which was the same van that was parked outside my house that morning. Unsure if they detained anyone.

    Full Description

Homeland Security agents won two warrants from a magistrate judge that allowed them to enter the building and seize documents – such as employee files and laptops. They did not have a warrant to search and detain human beings. Agents made employees line up and asked their status, illegally search some, and detained 57 in handcuffs and shackles. Footage on the reddit link shows 3 or 4 agents kicking in womens bathroom door and demanding the woman pull her pants up and come out of the stall. I do not know if this specific person was detained. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ice-agents-caught-forcing-into-women-s-restroom-in-shocking-raid-footage/ar-AA1QRxaG https://www.syracuse.com/news/2025/11/watch-body-cam-video-shows-federal-immigration-raid-inside-cato-nutrition-bar-plant.html https://www.reddit.com/r/CringeTikToks/s/r6QRZRdORF

⚠ Verification status: NOT RESEARCHED — compiled from press reporting, not yet verified by ICE List. Volunteers: confirm against the two-source standard before changing status.

Summary: Early on Thursday 16 January 2026, ICE agents detained roughly six to seven residents of an apartment building on Bay Ridge Parkway in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, as they left for the day. Among those taken was Deacon Sebastian Renoj Ordoñez, 58, a leader at the Iglesia Jovenes Cristianos church for nearly two decades. Community leaders said Ordoñez had no criminal record; DHS countered that he was an undocumented Guatemalan national with a prior immigration history under a different name. The detention drew condemnation from local clergy and elected officials and became a focal point for concern over intensifying ICE activity in southern Brooklyn.

    Full Description

According to Pastor (Bishop) Erick Salgado of Iglesia Jovenes Cristianos and City Council Member Susan Zhuang, ICE agents positioned themselves outside an apartment building on Bay Ridge Parkway early on 16 January 2026 and detained residents as they emerged. Salgado said agents "were outside just waiting for everyone who was walking out of this building" and took "like six or seven members of our community," including Ordoñez, a church leader of more than 18 years. One account described an agent waiting "with a coffee, picking up everyone who was coming out of the building."

Ordoñez, 58, is originally from Guatemala and has lived in Brooklyn for nearly 20 years. Community leaders and his lawyer, Michael Musa-Obregon, stated he had no criminal record — "not even a traffic ticket" — though his lawyer acknowledged he believed his client was not lawfully present and stressed that "everybody is entitled to due process."

DHS provided a contrary account. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Ordoñez was "an illegal alien from Guatemala who admitted to being illegally in the United States," and that Border Patrol first encountered him in 2000 when he allegedly used the name "Juan Rivera-Barraz" and claimed Mexican citizenship, after which he was removed to Mexico.

Council Member Zhuang said ICE had been in the neighborhood "almost every day" the prior week, detaining primarily blue-collar workers near the New Utrecht Avenue and 18th Avenue subway stations in the early mornings, and stated her office was offering free immigration representation. Clergy and officials held a press conference outside Ordoñez's home demanding his release and an end to the enforcement surge.

    Incident Details (as reported)

    • Date: Thursday 16 January 2026, early morning
    • Location: Apartment building, Bay Ridge Parkway (Bay Parkway), Bensonhurst, Brooklyn
    • Detained: ~6–7 residents, including Deacon Sebastian Renoj Ordoñez (58, Guatemalan national)
    • Agencies named: ICE / DHS
    • Pattern: Reported near-daily ICE presence in Bensonhurst that week; morning stakeouts near New Utrecht & 18th Ave stations
    • Disputed facts: Community leaders state no criminal record; DHS alleges prior removal in 2000 under an assumed name ("Juan Rivera-Barraz")

      * NY Daily News: “Rough arrests by ICE agents unfold inside Manhattan federal courthouse amid Trump crackdown.”

Summary: On June 6 2025, four federal-style agents carried out forceful arrests inside the Manhattan federal courthouse. Witness footage and advocacy reports show individuals attending hearings being pinned to the ground and taken away. The arrests occurred in an environment usually treated as a sensitive location, raising legal and safety concerns.

    Full description

Witness reports and circulating video show a group of at least four agents moving through the courthouse and detaining multiple individuals in the hallways. Two people were taken to the ground and restrained while bystanders shouted for assistance. Some children reportedly witnessed the arrests, intensifying public outrage over the location and method of enforcement.

Advocates described the scene as chaotic, with agents using physical force in areas typically associated with legal protections and due-process access. The courthouse is a site where people must attend mandatory hearings, and the use of force inside these spaces has been criticised as undermining access to justice.

Reports do not clarify whether the agents were acting under civil or criminal warrants, and ICE did not immediately confirm the operational basis for the arrests.

    Agencies and units involved

    • ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) — widely reported as the responsible agency.
